Abstract:
Provided is a two-dimensional photonic crystal laser that can make the intensity distribution of light in a cross section of a laser beam nearly uniform. A two-dimensional photonic crystal laser (10) comprises: an active layer (11); a two-dimensional photonic crystal layer (12) which is provided on one side of the active layer (11) and in which different-refractive-index regions (122) that have a refractive index different from that of a plate-shaped base material (121) are periodically and two-dimensionally arranged in the base material (121); and a first electrode (171) and a second electrode (172) provided so as to sandwich the active layer (11) and the two-dimensional photonic crystal layer (12) in the stacking direction, wherein the first electrode (171) has an opening (175), a projection (1721) of the circumscribed circle of the second electrode (172) onto the first electrode (171) is located within the opening (175), and at least a portion of the circumference of the opening (175) of the first electrode (171) protrudes into the projection (1721).
