Abstract:

A two-stroke engine (1) comprises: a cylinder (2) including a scavenge port (23) and an exhaust port (24); a piston (3) disposed in the cylinder (2); a first ejection part (61) for ejecting liquid ammonia into a combustion chamber (20); and a supercharger (5) for producing scavenging air by compressing intake air. In the two-stroke engine (1), the liquid ammonia is ejected from the first ejection part (61) into the combustion chamber (20) from the time scavenging air starts to be supplied into the combustion chamber (20) through the scavenge port (23) to the time the piston (3) next reaches the top dead center. As a result of this, the temperature of gas in the combustion chamber (20) can be decreased by vaporization heat of the liquid ammonia, the internal pressure of the combustion chamber (20) during compression can be reduced, and the amount of work necessary for compression can be reduced.
