A tyrosinase activity inhibitor is made by combining a metal chelate compound of an α-lipoylamino acid (the metal is zinc, cobalt, or iron) or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof (A) and human manganese SOD (B-1) or ascorbic acids (B-2) such as ascorbic acid or ascorbic acid glucoside. The use ratio (R1) of component (A) and component (B-1) is preferably 0.001-1500 when defined as R1 = [unit concentration (unit/mL) of component (B-1)/concentration (μg/mL) of component (A)], and the use ratio (R2) of component (A) and component (B-2) is preferably 0.0001-1000 when defined as R2 = [concentration (μg/mL) of component (A)]/[concentration (mg/mL) of component (B-2)]. Component (A) and component (B-1) or component (B-2) are combined and incorporated into an external preparation for the skin as active ingredients to inhibit tyrosinase activity.
