The present invention provides a highly safe tyrosinase activity inhibitor having good activity. The present invention relates to: a tyrosinase activity inhibitor containing one or more 4-alkylresorcinol derivatives or salts thereof having a hydrophilic ester or ether substituent in the 4-alkyl chain; a skin external preparation containing same; a whitening agent; and a cosmetic.
