Abstract:
This ultra-low-temperature freezer (10) comprises: a cold head (14) having a displacer (20), a drive piston (22), an expansion chamber (34), and a piston drive chamber (46); a valve drive chamber (54); and a spool (56) that moves between a first position and a second position in accordance with the pressure in the valve drive chamber (54). The spool (56) connects the expansion chamber (34) to a compressor discharge opening (12a) when in the first position, and connects the expansion chamber (34) to a compressor intake opening (12b) when in the second position. The spool (56) comprises: a spool valve (50) that generates a periodic pressure fluctuation in the expansion chamber (34) due to a reciprocating motion of the spool (56) between the first position and the second position; and a pressure control mechanism (52) that controls the pressure in the valve drive chamber (54) so that the spool (56) moves in a reciprocating manner between the first position and the second position, the pressure control mechanism (52) also being configured so as to generate, in synchronization with the reciprocating motion of the spool (56), a pressure fluctuation in a phase opposite that of the pressure fluctuation in the expansion chamber (34).
