In configurations that add and output signals from multiple ultrasonic transducers for each subarray, the invention allows aperture control on a per ultrasonic transducer basis. The ultrasonic probe is provided with multiple ultrasonic transducers, multiple delay circuits, and an adder, and is configured to allow ultrasonic receive aperture control. The delay circuits delay received signals. The adder adds and outputs the received signals for each prescribed group. The ultrasonic probe also is provided with a gate means. The gate means switches between signal channel connection and blocking for each signal channel disposed between the ultrasonic transducers and the adder circuit. After transmission of the ultrasonic wave in the period of the ultrasonic wave, the gate means connects only the signal channel from the ultrasonic transducer corresponding to a previously established initial receive aperture and, as time elapses in the reception period, connects the corresponding signal channels, in order, from the ultrasonic transducer closest to the initial receive aperture.
