Abstract:
An ultrasound generator of the embodiment of the preset invention comprises: a vibrator provided with a piezoelectric body that vibrates from the piezoelectric effect when an AC voltage is applied and thereby generates ultrasonic waves, at least two electrodes provided along the surface of the piezoelectric body in positions that differ in height, and counter electrodes provided in positions opposing the at least two electrodes; and a control unit that, upon receiving an ultrasound generation instruction that contains information on directivity of ultrasonic waves that are generated, performs control to select from the at least two electrodes and the counter electrodes a combination, corresponding to the directivity in the ultrasound generation instruction, of a voltage-applying electrode which is an electrode to which an AC voltage is applied, and a ground electrode which is an electrode that is made ground potential, and to apply an AC voltage to the voltage-applying electrode to generate ultrasound.
