Abstract:

Provided is a sterilization method which with highly reliable ultraviolet sterilization is possible, even of, for example, an article for sterilization having low ultraviolet transmissivity, such as foods and beverages, with which it is possible to substantially eliminate the need for a cleaning procedure for the ultraviolet transmissive window material in an ultraviolet irradiation device, and which poses negligible risk of recontamination. Provided is an ultraviolet sterilization method in which, when carrying out sterilization of an article for sterilization, for example, an ultraviolet transmissive container containing an article for sterilization, such as a flexible pouch made from an ultraviolet transmissive film comprising a heat sealable resin, the article having been placed into the ultraviolet transmissive container, and the container then irradiated with ultraviolet rays from the outside, the container packed with the article for sterilization is either sealed airtightly from the time between packing until completion of ultraviolet irradiation, or ultraviolet irradiation and the sealing operations are carried out in the same sterile environment.
