The present invention relates to an umbrella rib assembly (100) which is for a foldable umbrella and which combines main ribs (110) with first auxiliary ribs (120) and second auxiliary ribs (130) into a folding configuration. The rib assembly (100) comprises a plurality of main ribs (110) having an inner-side member (111) and a central member (112), and a plurality of first auxiliary ribs (120) having a support member (122) and a second auxiliary rib (130), which are connected to a first auxiliary rib fixing member (150) so as to be rotatable with respect to said member. The diameter (D1) of the connection unit for rotatably connecting the inner-side member (111) of the main ribs (110) to a main rib fixing member (140) is configured to be significantly larger than the diameter (D2) of the connection unit for rotatably connecting the second auxiliary rib (130) to a second auxiliary rib fixing member (160). Thus, when the second auxiliary rib fixing member (160) descends toward the fixed first auxiliary rib fixing member (150) the umbrella rib assembly (100) opens, and when the second auxiliary rib fixing member (160) is raised toward the fixed main rib fixing member (140) the umbrella rib assembly (100) folds up. Foldable umbrellas (1) of a variety of structures can be provided using the disclosed umbrella rib assembly (100).
