A universal tightening tool for tightening fastening members, such as screws and bolts, comprises a socket-returning coiled spring having a long service life. A universal tightening tool (4) provided with a socket section (40), a holding member (41), and a universal joint section (42) for connecting the socket section (40) and the holding member (41). The universal tightening tool (4) is also provided with: a pressing member (9) movably provided to the outer peripheral surface of the holding member (41) so as to be in contact with the rear end surface of the socket section (40); a coiled spring (10) provided between the inner surface of the pressing member (9) and the outer peripheral surface of the holding member (41) and pressing the pressing member (9) against the rear end surface of the socket section (40); and a spring receiver (11) provided to the outer peripheral surface of the holding member (41) and preventing the coiled spring (10) from moving to the other side.
