Abstract:
Disclosed is a UV enhancer for a discharge lamp, by which a discharge lamp is efficiently irradiated with ultraviolet rays to improve the startability, and a creeping discharge or an atmospheric discharge is prevented from occurring on the outside of a glow-discharge tube. In the UV enhancer, a pinch seal portion is prevented from cracking if an external force is applied in the direction in which a lead wire is bent. In a discharge tube (11) which emits ultraviolet rays, a lead wire outlet portion (19) is formed on one side of a pinch seal portion (17) which seals an electrode assembly (16), and a light emitting portion (18) is formed on the opposite side of the pinch seal portion (17). The lead wire outlet portion (19) is formed at a sleeve (20) spaced from a lead wire (15) at a predetermined distance. An external electrode (13) disposed on the outside of a light emitting portion (18) is formed at a holder (H) obtained by bending a metal plate. A slit (21) through which ultraviolet rays are radiated and a clip (22) which holds both sides of the pinch seal portion (17) are formed in the holder (H). A protrusion (23) which positions the clip (22) at a position apart from the lead wire outlet portion (19) at a predetermined insulation length is formed at the pinch seal portion (17).
