Abstract:
A air cutting device (10) is connected to a vacuum source to draw hair into a cutting chamber (60) and includes a cutting mechanism allowing an operator to both position the cutting device (10) and activate the mechanism with one hand. The mechanism includes a fixed blade (110) and slidable blade (112) which cooperate to cut hair. The mechanism also maintains the blades (110, 112) in a proper position and applies pressure to at least one of the blades (110, 112) to ensure the proper cutting of hair. Preferably, non-parallel cutting edges (116A, 116B) and the bowing of at least one fo the blades (110, 112) act to provide an effective moving shear point between the blades (110, 112). The mechanism also allows for continued airflow through the cutting chamber (60) regardless of the position of the blades (110, 112) during cutting.
