Abstract:

A valve performance controller for internal combustion engine, including an oil pump, valve timing alteration means and a valve timing control unit. The valve timing alteration means changes the valve performance values of an engine air intake valve in accordance with the pressure of operating oil fed from the oil pump. The valve timing control unit includes a storage unit and a detection unit. The storage unit stores an arithmetic map for use in calculation of the target values regarding valve performance values in accordance with multiple engine control values. The detection unit detects the temperature of operating oil. The arithmetic map includes a first map and a second map. In the second map, in a low revolution region of engine revolution speed, the rate of change of valve performance values corresponding to a change of engine control values is set low as compared with that in the first map. The valve timing control unit switches the arithmetic map from the first map to the second map when the temperature of operating oil detected is relatively high.
