Abstract:
Provided is a valve stem seal having increased durability against back pressure. The elastic body (20) of this valve stem seal (1) has: an annular seal lip (23) in contact with a valve stem; and an annular back-pressure lip (24) provided on the cylinder side in the direction of an axis (x) at a distance from the seal lip (23). An annular flange (12) extending toward the axis (x) is formed at the cam-side end of a reinforcement ring (10). The flange (12) is located between the seal lip (23) of the elastic body (20) and the back-pressure lip (24) of the elastic body (20) in the direction of the axis (x). In the elastic body (20), the distance (L2) in the direction of the axis (x) between the inner peripheral end (13) of the flange (12) and the root (24a) of the back-pressure lip (24) is greater than the distance (L1) in the direction of the axis (x) between the root (24a) of the back-pressure lip (24) and the front end (24b) of the back-pressure lip (24). The outline of a cross-section of a cylinder-side corner (13d) located on the cylinder side of the inner peripheral end (13) of the flange (12) is curved.
