Abstract:
Provided is a valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine with which the valve timing control device can be operated even when a portion of the coil of an electric motor is broken. In a step 4, when it is determined that a target phase conversion angle (A) and the actual phase conversion angle (B) are not equal, the process moves to a step 5 wherein a motor drive command is output, and then moves to a step 6. In a first routine, it is determined in a step 8 that the wiring in one system has broken when the motor current value has risen, the motor drive current is stopped in a step 9, and the process returns to step 6 via a step 10, and from there to a step 13 where, when a restart is determined, the motor drive current is applied in a step 15 and the relative rotational phase of a camshaft (2) is converted to a phase suitable for starting.
