Abstract:

Provided is a valve opening/closing timing control system that achieves excellent starting performance and can be applied to various types of internal combustion engines. In the valve opening/closing timing control system, an intake valve camshaft for opening/closing an intake valve of an internal combustion engine and an exhaust valve camshaft for opening/closing an exhaust valve of the internal combustion engine are each provided with a valve opening/closing timing control device, wherein the valve opening/closing timing control device for the intake valve and/or the valve opening/closing timing control device for the exhaust valve is electrically operated. The valve opening/closing timing control system is provided with a control unit that changes the phase of whichever of the valve opening/closing timing control devices for the intake and exhaust valves is electrically operated to the most advanced phase when there is a failure in the electrically operated valve opening/closing timing control device, and changes the phase of the valve opening/closing timing control device that did not fail toward the advance side, thereby reducing the amount of overlap of the intake valve and the exhaust valve.
