In this vane pump, an accommodation space 10 is closed by an upper plate 8, a pump chamber 20 is defined by a rotor 18 accommodated in the interior of said accommodation space 10, and a fluid is taken in and discharged as a result of a vane 21 on the outer circumference causing the capacity of the pump chamber 20 to change together with rotation of the rotor 18. An intake port 26 is formed as a recess in the lower surface of the upper plate 8 and connected to a second intake path 28 on the outer circumferential side of the accommodation space 10, and the intake port 26 extends toward the vane travel direction side within the pump chamber 20 while leaving an auxiliary sliding contact surface 53 between said intake port 26 and the inner circumferential surface of the accommodation space 10. An approximately linear inclined buffer section 52a that changes position toward the inner circumferential side as proximity to the vane travel direction side increases with the inner circumferential surface of the accommodation space 10 serving as a reference point is formed on the base end side of the location at which the intake port 26 extends. A parallel section 25b extends from the inclined buffer section 52a toward the vane travel direction side.
