Abstract:
In order to set the volume of an auxiliary combustion chamber (52) appropriately regardless of the amount of movement of a sleeve (8), this variable compression ratio mechanism (1) is equipped with: a combustion chamber (5); a cylindrical sleeve (8) provided so as to be capable of moving along the inner circumferential surface (6a) of a cylinder hole (6); a piston (12) that moves reciprocally inside the sleeve (8); and a moving means (9) that moves the sleeve (8). The combustion chamber (5) has a primary combustion chamber (51), and an auxiliary combustion chamber (52) capable of communicating with the primary combustion chamber (51) and formed farther outside in the radial direction than the inner circumferential surface (6a) of the cylinder hole (6). The moving means (9) separates the primary combustion chamber (51) and the auxiliary combustion chamber (52) by placing the sleeve (8) therebetween, when the combustion chamber (5) is set at a high compression ratio, and retracts at least a portion of the sleeve (8) from between the primary combustion chamber (51) and the auxiliary combustion chamber (52), enabling the chambers to communicate, when the combustion chamber (5) is set at a low compression ratio.
