Abstract:

A variable focal lens in which zoom magnification is not required to be reduced and an origin sensor can be eliminated. A microcomputer (15) is a focus adjusting section for adjusting focus by controlling a stepping motor (13) to move a focus ring (5). The microcomputer (15) moves the focus ring (5) by a first moving distance in a first moving direction toward one of the FAR side and the NEAR side, and then moves the focus ring (5) by a second moving distance in a second moving direction reverse to the first moving direction. Focus adjustment is performed by moving the focus ring in the first moving direction from an adjustment reference point, i.e. the arriving point of the focus ring after moving in the second moving direction, within a range of the second moving distance. Consequently, it is not required to set a margin by a software at the end of a movable range of the focus ring (5).
