Abstract:
A variable magnification optical system (ZL) used in an optical device such as a camera (1), the variable magnification optical system (ZL) having, in sequence from the object side, a first lens group having a positive refractive power, a second lens group having a negative refractive power, a third lens group having a negative refractive power, a fourth lens group having a positive refractive power, and a fifth lens group. When the magnification changes from a wide-angle-end state to a telephoto-end state, the distances between the lens groups change, and when focusing is performed from an object at infinity to a nearby object, the third lens group moves in the optical axis direction.
