Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a variable magnification projection optical system in which the display distance of a virtual image is easily changed at an arbitrarily defined position within a screen. A variable magnification projection optical system 13 is provided with: a first projection optical system 30 which forms a first intermediate image from an image of a display element 11; and a second projection optical system 40 which reflects image light from the first intermediate image TI1 by a combiner 20 that is a display screen, thereby displaying a virtual image through the display screen, wherein the second projection optical system 40 has a variable focus optical system 51 in which the display position of the virtual image is variable.
