Abstract:
The present invention is provided with an external EGR system, an intake-side variable valve mechanism and an exhaust-side variable valve mechanism, wherein when an internal combustion engine is in a low-load region, the flow rate of an external EGR gas by the external EGR system is decreased, the closing timing of an exhaust valve is advanced up to a point before the top dead center by the exhaust-side variable valve mechanism, and the opening timing of an intake valve is retarded up to a predetermined position past the top dead center by the intake-side variable valve mechanism. Since a negative valve overlap-section is formed, a high-temperature gas is sealed into a combustion chamber from the last stage of the exhaust stroke to the last stage of the intake stroke, and the temperature can be increased by pressurizing this combustion gas by means of a piston. Thus, destabilization of combustion caused by re-introduction of the external EGR gas in the low-load region is suppressed, and thus, fuel efficiency performance can be improved.
