The purpose of the present invention is to provide a vehicle approach notification sound generation device capable of generating a vehicle approach notification sound in an appropriate range depending on the form of the road. This vehicle approach notification sound generation device (1) is characterized by being provided with a map information storage unit (6) which stores map information including road form information or takes in map information from outside the device, vehicle-external speakers (11-13) which output a vehicle approach notification sound for notifying of the approach of the vehicle, a total control unit which controls output of the vehicle approach notification sound, and a host vehicle position calculation unit (5) which detects the host vehicle position and travel direction, wherein the total control unit (7) controls the orientation direction of the vehicle approach notification sound on the basis of the host vehicle position and travel direction detected by the host vehicle position calculation unit (5) and the road form stored in the map information storage unit (6).
