A vehicle body rear structure comprising a rear floor panel in which a spare tire pan is formed, a pair of rear side members, a rear easily bending part formed to the rear of the spare tire pan on the rear side members, a front easily bending part formed to the front of the spare tire pan on the rear side members, and a downward fold line formed in the bottom wall of the spare tire pan. The vehicle body rear structure is configured so that during a rear surface collision, the spare tire is rotated by a Z-shaped bend in the rear side members starting from the rear easily bending part and the front easily bending part, and by deformation of the spare tire pan starting from the downward fold line. According to this vehicle body rear structure, a spare tire disposed horizontally can be shifted to an upright orientation by controlling the deformation of the rear part of the vehicle body during a rear surface collision.
