Faulty deformation of a seal member is corrected and inadequate return of a pressing member due to unsatisfactory deformation of the seal member is prevented. During the period from triggering the locking action to the end of the release action, W/C pressure automatically increases and faulty deformation of the seal member (22) is corrected. Therefore, when a piston (19) is retracted, greater restoring force can be generated by the seal member (22) and the piston (19) can be retracted on the basis of this restoring force. Consequently, the piston (19) can be satisfactorily moved and inadequate retraction of the piston (19) can be prevented. Furthermore, the brake pad (11) can be moved to a desired separation distance from the brake disc (12) and a dragging sensation felt by the driver can be prevented.
