The disclosed communication device contains a first resistance circuit (RB) that is connected between the output of a signal generating unit (602) and a first terminal (TS1), and that has a resistance value that corresponds to the requested operation mode requested of a vehicle. The vehicle (10) contains: a second resistance circuit (RA) that is connected between a second terminal (TS2) and a ground node (512) to which a baseline electric potential is applied; and a vehicle control unit (508) that determines the operating mode of the vehicle. The vehicle control unit (508) detects the signal potential of a signal (CPLT) via a first signal retrieval node (N1) provided on a pathway linking the second terminal (TS2) and the second resistance circuit (RA), and sets the operating mode of the vehicle (10) in the requested operation mode corresponding to the resistance value of the first resistance circuit (RB).
