Abstract:
This vehicle control apparatus controls traveling of a vehicle, and is provided with: a vehicle detection unit that detects a first target vehicle traveling on a lane adjacent to a driving lane on which the vehicle is traveling in the same direction as that of the vehicle, and detects a first vehicle distance between the first target vehicle and the vehicle; a calculation unit that calculates the relative speed of the vehicle to the first target vehicle on the basis of a change in the first vehicle distance; a curve setting unit that, when the first target vehicle traveling on the adjacent lane is detected to the sideward or rearward of the vehicle, virtually sets a first curve, indicating a lower limit relative speed defined corresponding to a distance from the first target vehicle, ahead of the first target vehicle; and a vehicle control unit that, when the vehicle is to move from the driving lane to the adjacent lane ahead of the first target vehicle, causes the vehicle to travel at a relative speed equal to or higher than the relative speed which is to the first target vehicle, and which is determined on the basis of the first curve based on the first vehicle distance.
