Abstract:

A vehicle control device comprising a recognition unit for recognizing the surrounding environment of the host vehicle and a driving control unit for referencing the recognition result of the recognition unit and controlling the driving of the host vehicle. If a first vehicle traveling ahead of the host vehicle that is traveling on a first route and an obstacle that is present ahead of the first vehicle are recognized by the recognition unit, the driving control unit determines, on the basis of the state of a second route whereto the first vehicle is steered so as to avoid the obstacle, whether to cause the host vehicle to follow the first vehicle or follow a second vehicle travelling on the second route.
