Abstract:
The present invention is a vehicle control device for controlling a vehicle equipped with a continuously variable transmission provided between the engine and the drive wheels and frictional engagement elements provided between the continuously variable transmission and the drive wheels. The vehicle control device is equipped with a control unit that, when inertial travel conditions are met during travel, releases the frictional engagement elements and performs inertial travel control so that fuel injection to the engine is stopped and the vehicle coasts. When the target gear change ratio for the continuously variable transmission that is set when the accelerator pedal is released and the actual gear change ratio of the continuously variable transmission when inertial travel control is performed do not coincide, the control unit prohibits inertial travel control and changes the gear change ratio of the continuously variable transmission to the target gear change ratio.
