Abstract:
The present invention obtains a vehicle control device and a vehicle control method that adapt to the preferences of a driver and realize safe autonomous driving of a vehicle. The present invention is configured so that: the shape of the travel lane of a vehicle and the road width are detected by a lane information detection unit (11) on the basis of a camera image from a forward camera (21); a current lateral position, which indicates the position of a currently traveling vehicle in the width direction of the travel lane, is detected by a current lateral position detection unit (12); a driver-corresponding lateral position corresponding to the driving trends of the driver is set by a driver-corresponding lateral position setting unit (13); and furthermore, achievable upper- and lower-limit values for the driver-corresponding lateral position are set in accordance with the road width by an upper-/lower-limit value setting unit (15), after which, if a change in the road width is detected, a driver-corresponding lateral position within the upper- and lower-limit values reflecting the change is defined as a target lateral position by a lateral position control amount calculation unit (14), and a lateral position control amount for the vehicle is calculated on the basis of the current lateral position of the vehicle.
