Abstract:
Provided are a vehicle control device and vehicle control method that make it possible to efficiently generate a high-precision map and make automatic driving possible sooner. In an example of this invention, a vehicle control device mounted in a vehicle comprises a surrounding environment recognition unit 1 for detecting recognition information obtained by recognizing the environment surrounding a host vehicle, a host vehicle position estimation unit 2 for estimating host vehicle position information for the host vehicle, a map information generation unit 3 for generating map information on the basis of the recognition information and the host vehicle position information, a map information storage unit 5 for storing the map information, and an HMI control unit 7 for exchanging information with a user. The vehicle control device additionally comprises a map information generation difficulty acquisition unit 4 for acquiring a generation difficulty for the map information. The HMI control unit 7 notifies the user of the generation difficulty and/or searches for a travel route for the host vehicle in a manner that takes the generation difficulty into consideration.
