Provided is a vehicle control device which is provided with a clutch mechanism for selectively connecting and disconnecting a power transmission path between a drive power source and drive wheels, and which is capable of disconnecting the power transmission path during travel to cause the vehicle to coast. The vehicle control device is provided with: a detection means for detecting vehicle speed; a performing means for performing coasting control in which, in cases when the accelerator operation amount during travel is returned to a prescribed operation amount or less, the clutch mechanism is released and the power transmission path is disconnected to cause the vehicle to coast; an updating means for updating the vehicle-speed minimum value when coasting control is being performed; and an ending means which, in cases when the difference between the current vehicle speed and the most recent minimum value is at least a prescribed value, engages the clutch mechanism and connects the power transmission path to end coasting control.
