Abstract:
This vehicle control device, for controlling operation of a vehicle that is provided with a transmission having a direct gear and normal gears that include an overdrive gear, which is a gear with a lower gear ratio than that of the direct gear, is provided with: a travel segment determination unit which determines a next travel segment, which is a travel segment with a different road slope from that of the current travel segment where the vehicle is currently traveling; a current gear stage selection unit which, in accordance with a shift pattern, selects a current gear stage, which is the gear stage of the transmission in the current travel segment; a next gear stage selection unit which, on the basis of the estimated value of the travel resistance of the vehicle in the next travel segment, selects a next gear stage, which will be the gear stage of the transmission in the next travel segment; and a shift control unit which, when the gear stage of the transmission in the current travel segment is an overdrive gear and the next gear stage is a direct gear, maintains the gear stage of the transmission in the direct gear while the vehicle travels in the next travel segment.
