Abstract:
This vehicle control device is for a vehicle comprising a monitoring sensor (50) for monitoring the front side in the direction of travel of the vehicle and a brake device (20) for braking the vehicle (100). The vehicle control device comprises: a vehicle determination unit (S130, S140) that determines whether a frontmost vehicle (102) is present further forward in the direction of travel of the vehicle than a leading vehicle (101) positioned in front of the vehicle in the direction of travel of the vehicle; and a following control unit (S150) that, when it is determined by the vehicle determination unit that a frontmost vehicle is present further forward in the direction of travel of the vehicle than a leading vehicle, compares a first required deceleration speed based on the monitoring result of monitoring of the leading vehicle by the monitoring sensor and required in order for the vehicle to travel following the leading vehicle and a second required deceleration speed based on the monitoring result of monitoring of the frontmost vehicle by the monitoring sensor and required in order for the vehicle to travel following the frontmost vehicle, then controls the brake device so that the deceleration speed of the vehicle approaches the second required deceleration speed when the second required deceleration speed is greater than the first required deceleration speed.
