Abstract:
The present invention provides a vehicle control method that can suppress increase in the frequency of engine stops/restarts when operating a braking device in automatic travel mode. When automatic travel mode is set, a braking amount (requested deceleration) is estimated that indicates the size of braking force that occurs when a braking device (motor generator (MG), friction brake (MB)) operates in response to a system deceleration request for causing actual vehicle speed to follow a target vehicle speed. The present invention is configured such that: engine (Eng) stop is permitted when the braking amount (requested deceleration) is at least an engine stop permission threshold value; and engine (Eng) stop is not permitted when the braking amount (requested deceleration) is less than the engine stop permission threshold value.
