Abstract:
The present invention provides a vehicle control system that is inexpensive, can ensure safety even in the event of failure of a control device, and can improve the safety of an autonomous driving system (or a travel assistance system). The present invention is a vehicle control system 100 comprising a first control device 1 that implements two or more autonomous driving functions on the basis of information of an external recognition sensor and/or information of a map database, a second control device 25 that implements autonomous driving function(s) less than those of the first control device 1 on the basis of the information of the external recognition sensor and/or the information of the map database, and a vehicle movement control device 26 that automatically controls the driving state of a vehicle on the basis of the function(s) planned by the first or second control device 1, 25, said vehicle control system 100 having: a backup determining unit 302 that determines whether the future function(s) planned by the first or second control device 1, 25 can be backed up by the second control device 25; and an HMI 23 that issues a notification of switching from system responsibility to driver responsibility if it is determined by the backup determination unit 302 that the backup is not possible.
