Abstract:

A vehicle-sensing apparatus (1) providing: an antenna (2) for detecting electromagnetic waves emitted from a physical object; an image-generating unit (3) for generating a radio image based on electromagnetic waves received by the antenna (2); a road-surface-region detector (4) for detecting the road surface region from within a radio image; an axis-of-symmetry-setting unit (5) for setting, as the first axis of symmetry, a section in the boundary areas of the road surface region that equal or exceed a given length in the horizontal direction; a road-surface-reflection-region-setting unit (6) for setting a horizontal center line through the vertical center of the radio image and setting, as the road surface reflection region, the area between the first axis of symmetry and the center line; and a vehicle detector (7) for comparing the waveform of the pixel output from the road surface reflection region and the waveform of the pixel output from the road surface region and, in a case where the waveforms have similar characteristics, detecting the road surface reflection region as a vehicle.
