Abstract:

Provided is a vehicle discriminating device, which can discriminate massive vehicle stationary image data for individual vehicle kinds, at a high speed. The vehicle discriminating device discriminates a vehicle being taken in an object image, by converting the pixels of the taken image at positions of an equal distance into lightness components, by applying the lightness components to a differential filter, by counting the number of the determined variables equal to more than a predetermined value, and by performing the discriminations on the basis of the counted value. As a result, this counted value changes with the size of a taken object in the taken images such that the object of a large occupation area has a large counted value whereas the object of a small occupation area has a small counted value. Thus, it is possible to discriminate the vehicle correctly.
