Abstract:
A vehicle door exterior handle device for which insertion of a handle lever into an opening in a vehicle door is disabled when in a non-functioning position and allowed when in a functioning position during the assembly, in the vehicle door, of a handle base that has the handle lever assembled therein which is linked and connected to a connecting arm unit of an exterior handle. A temporary retaining member (41) that is capable of rotating about an axial line parallel to the axis of rotation of a handle lever (36) is mounted on the handle lever (36), and an engaging unit (41d) that engages with a locking unit (44) provided in a handle base (25) when the handle lever (36) is in the functioning position is provided in the temporary retaining member (41). Accordingly, it is possible to reliably maintain a state in which the exterior handle is held in an open door operating position so that the handle lever is in the functioning position.
