Abstract:
A vehicle door latch device that prevents a release action by a latch release element when an impact has been received. A base member 4 comprises a stopper member 8 that is pivotally supported by a shaft 13 and is capable of swinging from a normal position to a lock position, against the impelling force of a spring 14. The stopper member 8 is capable of inhibiting rotation of the latch release element 60 towards the release direction by rotating from the normal position to the lock position, against the impelling force of the spring 14, as a result of inertia force generated by impact force received from a first direction facing the direction in which a striker S enters an entry groove 44. The latch release element 60 has the center of gravity G thereof set to a position eccentric from the rotation center of the latch release element 60, such that an inertia force can act in the opposite direction to the release direction, said inertia force being generated by impact force received from a second direction opposite to the first direction.
