Abstract:
This vehicle door latch device comprises: a latch that is engaged with a striker and can rotate from an unlatched position to a fully latched excess rotation position; a ratchet member that is pivotably stopped by a ratchet shaft and that has a pawl which can be displaced between a latch engaged position at which the pawl can face an engagement part of the latch and a latch separated position at which the pawl is disengaged from the engagement part of the latch, the ratchet member being pushed out to the latch separated position from the latch engaged position by a release component force generated in an anti-latch engagement direction as a result of an unlatch return force in an unlatch direction being applied at the latch engaged position, and that is; and a ratchet retainer that is disposed at the side of the ratchet member and can be displaced around a pin between a holding position, at which the ratchet retainer abuts against the ratchet member and can block displacement of the ratchet member from the latch engaged position to the latch separated position caused by the release component force, and a released position, at which the ratchet retainer separates from the ratchet member and permits displacement of the ratchet member from the latch engaged position to the latch separated position. A cam surface having an arc shaped part is formed at the outer periphery of the ratchet retainer, and the ratchet retainer receives the release component force at the arc shaped part when located at the holding position.
