Abstract:
Switching between a locked state and an unlocked state of a locking mechanism 20 is performed by a motor 27 of a power release means 25. This vehicle door latch device is provided with: a latch mechanism 11; a power release means 25 that can release the latch mechanism 11; a manual release means 17 that can release the latch mechanism 11; and the locking mechanism 20 that is switched between a locked state for disabling operation of the manual release means 17 and an unlocked state for enabling operation of the manual release means 17. The power release means 25 has a cam ring 26 that is rotated forward and backward from a reference position by motor power. When rotating forward from the reference position, the cam ring 26 releases the latch mechanism 11 while holding the locking mechanism 20 in the locked state. When rotating backward from the reference position, the cam ring 26 switches the locking mechanism 20 to the unlocked state. When, during the unlocked state, rotating forward to return to the reference position, the cam ring 26 returns the locking mechanism 20 to the locked state.
