Abstract:
This vehicle door lock device is provided with: a case affixed to a door for opening and closing an opening formed on one end side of a vehicle body in a width direction; a latch which is configured so that, as the door is opened and closed, the latch engages in a latched attitude with a striker and unlocks the engagement by assuming an unlatched attitude; a latchet which, in a first attitude, holds the latch in the latched attitude and which brings the latch to the unlatched attitude by assuming a second attitude; an outer handle lever rotated as an opening operation is performed; and an inertial section supported in a rockable manner at a portion of the case, which is located below the outer handle lever, and maintaining the attitude thereof while being urged by an urging member, the inertial section being configured so that, when an external force greater than or equal to a predetermined level is applied from the one end side toward the other end side of the vehicle body, the attitude of the inertial section is changed by an inertial force to limit the rotation of the outer handle lever.
