Abstract:
A vehicle engine system (1) is equipped with an exhaust channel (8), a channel volume change unit (27), a temperature detection unit (15) and a control unit (10). An exhaust purification catalyst (5) is provided in the exhaust channel. The channel volume change unit is capable of changing the channel volume of the exhaust channel to a first channel volume, and also to a second channel volume which is smaller than the first channel volume. The temperature detection unit detects the temperature of the exhaust purification catalyst. The control unit controls the channel volume change unit in a manner such that the channel volume of the exhaust channel equals the second channel volume when the temperature of the exhaust purification catalyst is below an activation temperature, and controls the channel volume change unit in a manner such that the channel volume of the exhaust channel equals the first channel volume when the temperature of the exhaust purification catalyst is at or above the activation temperature and the load state of the engine (2) is high.
