Abstract:
When bent due to a collision in the front-rear direction of the vehicle, front side members (10L, 10R) make surface contact and not point contact, at contact surfaces (18) formed on contact sections (14) of the front side members, with a member which is located within the vehicle at a position adjacent to the front side members. This causes the load of the collision in the front-rear direction to be stably transmitted to the member, such as the engine (4), located adjacent to the front side members. As a result, the load is efficiently dispersed to improve the effect of load mitigation. Also, since the bent front side members (10L, 10R) have surface contact and not point contact with the member, such as the engine (4), which is located within the vehicle at a position adjacent to the front side members, the possibility of unexpected breakage, etc. of the bent front side members (10L, 10R) can be reduced.
