Title:
VEHICLE LIGHTING SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2021/054283
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention aims to reduce variation in the brightness of an irradiation light from a vehicle lighting system using a liquid crystal element. This vehicle lighting system includes a lamp unit arranged in a vehicle front section and a control unit that controls the operation of the lamp unit. The lamp unit has: a light source that is controlled by the control unit and emits light; a liquid crystal element that is controlled by the control unit, uses the light emitted from the light source, and forms irradiation light; and a lens that projects the irradiation light formed by the liquid crystal element into the vehicle surrounds. The light from the light source is incident to the liquid crystal element at a wide angle. The light incidence surface has at least: a first region in which a relatively large amount of light from a direction along the viewing direction of the liquid crystal element is incident; and a second region in which a relatively large amount of light from a direction not along the viewing direction of the liquid crystal element is incident. The control unit sets a first voltage in the first region relatively low, sets a second voltage in the second region relatively high, and drives the liquid crystal element.
