Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to obtain a vehicle side door structure and vehicle occupant protection system whereby the lumbar region of a vehicle occupant during a side impact can be pushed at an early stage by a large surface area. The vehicle side door structure has: a door outer panel (40); a door inner panel (42) in which a service hole (44) is formed; a door trim (46) attached to the inside of the door inner panel in the vehicle width direction thereof; an inner pad (56) provided between the door inner panel and the door trim so as to extend in the front-rear direction of the vehicle to the external peripheral edge of the service hole as viewed from the side of the vehicle; and a outer pad (52) provided between the door outer panel and the door inner panel so as to overlap with the outside of the inner pad in the vehicle width direction thereof as viewed from the side of the vehicle, and which is provided with a first part pushed by the door outer panel during a side impact, for pushing the inner pad toward the door trim through the service hole, and a second part for separating from the first part during a side impact and pushing the inner pad toward the door trim via the door inner panel.
