Abstract:
A vehicle travel control method characterized by: determining the acceleration intention of a driver of a vehicle (1) during travel; predicting whether a coasting travel fuel consumption reduction effect (E1) or a fuel consumption reduction effect (E2) caused by deceleration energy regeneration is higher when a determination is made that there is no acceleration intention, said coasting travel fuel consumption reduction effect (E1) cutting off power transmission between an engine (2) and drive wheels (6a, 6b) in the vehicle (1) and causing the vehicle (1) to travel and said fuel consumption reduction effect (E2) being caused by deceleration energy regeneration whereby rotational force of the drive wheels (6a, 6b) of the vehicle (1) is input to an electric motor (8); executing coasting travel if a prediction is made that the coasting travel fuel consumption reduction effect (E1) is higher than the deceleration energy regeneration fuel consumption reduction effect (E2); and executing deceleration energy regeneration if a prediction is made that the coasting travel fuel consumption reduction effect (E1) is not higher than the deceleration energy regeneration fuel consumption reduction effect (E2).
