Description:
Vehicle with silo

The invention relates to a vehicle, such as a truck or a trailer, comprising:

- a chassis;

- at least one wheel axle arranged under the chassis .

Various vehicles are used in the building industry for transporting building materials. It is

particularly for transport of powdered materials such as cement and plaster that these materials can be arranged in bags and transported by means of a truck or trailer.

The drawback of packaging powdered materials in bags is that these bags are heavy to handle for the

construction workers. The various bags first have to be loaded into the vehicle. Such bags usually weigh 25 kilograms, and a day of work at the construction site easily requires dozens of bags. Upon arrival at the construction site these bags have to be unloaded again, and usually carried on to the location where the work has to be carried out. A construction worker will thus easily lift over a thousand kilograms a day. This is undesirable from a health and safety viewpoint.

The processing of powdered material from bags is moreover undesirable because a large amount of dust is formed when opening the bags. This dust contaminates the construction site and is a health risk for the construction workers .

It is further known to deliver the powdered materials in silos. A silo is for this purpose filled with for instance plaster and transported on a truck to the

construction site in a horizontal position, just as a sea container. The silo is here unloaded and placed in its

vertical position of use. The construction workers can now draw a quantity of powdered material from the silo using a pump. A quantity of water can further be mixed in simultaneously using a pump, so that a quantity of mortar or plaster which can be processed immediately can be drawn from the silo. Mortar can for instance be poured directly into a wheelbarrow. In the case of plaster it is known to pump this immediately processable quantity via a hose to the location where it will be processed.

The drawback of such silos is that they usually contain very large quantities. These quantities are much too great for smaller-scale work, such as plastering a single room, and a silo with a large quantity remaining therein has to be taken back again.

In addition, not every construction site has space for such a large silo. Firstly, there must be sufficient space for the truck to unload the silo. In addition, there must be sufficient space to place the silo in vertical

position of use. The use of such a silo is often not possible, for instance when a room has to be plastered in a house on a narrow street in a city.

It is an object of the invention to reduce or even obviate the above stated drawbacks.

This object is achieved with a vehicle

according to the preamble, which is characterized by:

- a silo arranged fixedly and upright on the chassis for containing a powdered material such as plaster powder or cement powder, with an outlet arranged on the underside; and

- a pump arranged on the outlet of the silo. With the vehicle according to the invention it is possible to drive up to a construction site, for instance an existing house, and the silo will be ready for use

immediately. It is not necessary, as it is in the prior art silos, to first unload the silo and move it from a horizontal transport position to a vertical position of use.

Because the silo is arranged fixedly and upright on the chassis, the height of the silo will be limited by the maximum height of a vehicle. The volume of the silo will hereby be limited, but because the silo is easily

transported and can thus be replenished for instance daily, the volume of the silo will nevertheless be more than

sufficient for the daily usage of for instance a plasterer or bricklayer .

With the pump arranged on the outlet, the powdered material can be easily pumped via for instance a hose so that the vehicle can remain outside and the powdered material can be carried into a building via the hose.

An additional advantage of the vehicle

according to the invention is that little or no waste is created as compared to the situation where the powdered material is transported to the construction site in bags. When bags are used, paper bags, plastic sleeves of the bags and the foil arranged around a pallet of bags remain behind.

In an embodiment of the vehicle according to the invention the chassis forms a support structure extending in a main plane, and the main axis of the silo lies

perpendicularly of this main plane.

In a preferred embodiment of the vehicle according to the invention the pump is arranged at least between or even under the chassis. The height position of the silo will hereby also be lower, whereby the overall centre of gravity of the vehicle will be lower, which enhances the stability of the vehicle.

In yet another embodiment of the vehicle according to the invention the outlet of the silo is funnel- shaped. The powdered material will hereby drop easily to the outlet, whereby little residual material will remain in the silo .

In a further preferred embodiment of the vehicle according to the invention the vehicle is a trailer with one or more wheel axles placed one behind the other and wherein the centre of gravity of the silo is arranged over the one or more wheel axles placed one behind the other.

Arranging the centre of gravity of the silo over the one or more axles enables the nose weight of the trailer to remain limited, especially when the silo is filled with for instance 1 to 2 tons of powdered material.

A transport hose can in addition be easily connected under the chassis of the vehicle, and it is not necessary to first enter the vehicle in order to form the connection. When powdered material is spilled, this material will also remain outside the vehicle, which will facilitate clean-up .

In another preferred embodiment of the vehicle according to the invention the vehicle comprises a wheel axle arranged on a front side of the chassis and one or more wheel axles placed one behind the other close to the rear side of the chassis, and the centre of gravity of the silo is

arranged, as seen in vertical direction, in front of the one or more wheel axles placed one behind the other.

Such a vehicle can for instance be a van, or at least a chassis framework of a van, wherein only a cab without further superstructure is arranged on a chassis, on which chassis the silo with pump is further arranged. The advantage is that even someone with a standard driving license for passenger cars is allowed to drive the vehicle.

In yet another embodiment of the vehicle according to the invention the pump is an air transport pump for transporting the powdered material with air.

With such an air transport pump the powdered material can be easily transported to a mobile mixer. The mobile mixer is usually situated close to the location where the material is processed, while the vehicle can remain at a greater distance.

In yet another embodiment of the vehicle according to the invention the pump is a mixing pump, which mixing pump comprises a water connection, such that the mixing pump can mix the powdered material with a quantity of water and transport it.

With such a mixing pump a quantity of plaster or mortar which can be processed immediately can be prepared by mixing in water and optionally be pumped via a hose. A separate mobile mixer is hereby no longer necessary.

A vibrating device is preferably arranged on the silo. The vibrating device ensures that the powdered material will drop to the outlet and prevents for instance bridge formation.

In yet another embodiment of the vehicle the silo is provided on the upper side with a closable filling opening .

The silo can for instance be filled from a larger bulk silo via the closable filling opening. It is also possible to fill the silo from bags of powdered material at a central location, although this is not preferred from the viewpoint of dust formation.

In the context of the invention wheel axle is understood to mean at least a virtual axis on which two wheels are arranged on either side. This can for instance be done by means of an independent wheel suspension, but also by means of a rigid axle.

These and other features of the invention are further elucidated with reference to the accompanying

drawings .

Figure 1 shows a schematic side view of a first embodiment of a vehicle according to the invention.

Figure 2 shows a schematic side view of a second embodiment of a vehicle according to the invention.

Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a vehicle

1 according to the invention. This vehicle 1 is a tractive vehicle 2 with trailer 3. A wheel axle 5 is arranged under the chassis of trailer 3. Tractive vehicle 2 itself has two separate wheel axles 4.

Further arranged on the chassis of trailer 3 is a silo 6 having a funnel-shaped outlet 7 on the underside.

Provided on the funnel-shaped outlet 7 is a pump 8 which protrudes partly below chassis 3. A compressor 9 provides pump

8 with air via a conduit 10 so that powdered material can be transported via a hose 11 out of silo 6 via pump 8.

The connection of hose 11 to pump 8 is situated under chassis 3, whereby the hose can be easily connected.

Silo 6 is further provided with a closable filling opening 12, whereby silo 6 can be filled from for instance a bulk silo.

A superstructure 13 can optionally be placed on chassis 3, over silo 6 and compressor 9. The remaining space can thus be used to transport other materials and tools.
