Abstract:
This wind power generation device, which comprises a vertical axis wind turbine (1) and a power generator (3) connected to a rotary blade (2) of the vertical axis wind turbine (1), is provided with: a rotation assist means (5) for assisting rotation of the rotary blade (2) of the vertical axis wind turbine (1); a low efficiency rotation range determination means (7) for determining whether the rotary blade (2) is positioned in a low efficiency rotation range where the efficiency of generating rotational force with wind power is poor; and an assist control means (8). The assist control means (8) causes the rotation assist means (5) to assist rotation only when the rotation speed of the rotary blade (2) is low and it has been determined that the rotary blade is positioned in the low efficiency rotation range. The rotation assist means (5) can be formed of a means for applying electric power to the power generator (3), or of an auxiliary motor.
